Mike is a self-taught artist who has been painting off and on again since he was a young boy growing up in Minnesota.
Mike's career in the Health care Industry took an unexpected turn ten years ago which has allowed him to spend more time on improving his art work. He currently works part-time at Redlands Community Hospital as a Respiratory Therapist and when he is not being a husband, father and grandfather, he paints.
Mike is a Representational painter who's medium of choice is oils and his subject matter is the quiet off the road places in and around Big Bear Valley. Also, because Mike works off the hill, many of his subjects are of the landscapes along Highway 38. Often, Mike can be seen along the road sketching in the plein air fashion. These usually small pieces are most often used as reference material and seldom find their way into a frame. Some however do get displayed and sold. Mike tries to paint on location as much as he can believing that it is the only way to see all the nuances in color and values that nature has to offer, thus allowing the artist to paint a much more convincing landscape.
Mike is a member of the local Arts Council and displays work in their gallery as well as participating in Art On The Lake each August here in Big Bear.
Mike has given painting lessons in the past and would like to continue to do so on a more frequent basis. He is currently busy on creating pieces for up and coming outdoor shows as well as supplying two galleries. He is also open to commissions.
